The largest cycling festival in the Philippines is about to get bigger in 2020!
PRURide PH was first staged in 2016 by Pru Life UK to engage the growing cycling community in the Philippines to raise awareness on cycling as a sustainable alternative mode of transport. Inspired by Prudential RideLondon – the largest global cycling event sponsored by the life insurer's parent company, global financial services giant Prudential plc – the maiden event saw around a thousand cyclists participating in the different criterium categories in McKinley West, Taguig.
The 2018 edition stepped up the game by securing Class B accreditation from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world governing body for cycling. The two-weekend cycling affair held in Subic and Taguig gathered more than 2,000 cyclists participating in various categories, including the prestigious 100-kilometer Philippine National Road Race Championships and the country’s first ever Brompton Challenge.
2019 was even bigger with a two-leg event held in Filinvest City, Alabang in April and Subic, Zambales in May. More than 2,000 cyclists participated in 18 challenging categories across different expertise levels, including a three-day professional stage race as part of the UCI Asia Tour.
But it doesn’t stop there! This cycling festival is expanding its Asian reach in 2020. Aside from the Philippines and Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia will be hosting their first PRURide events. More than 3,300 cyclists from within the country and across Asia are expected to participate in the PRURide PH races and bring their families to join in the fun side activities.
Around 18 professional teams will be racing in the PRURide Stage Race on March 11-13, 2020, one of only two UCI 2.2-accredited events in the country. This three-stage race is one of the remaining chances for pro cyclists to earn points needed to enter the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Amateur cyclists will also have the chance to prove their mettle in the high-octane races of the Criterium on March 14, 2020. They can also join in the fun of the Gran Fondo (in 30, 60, or 100 kilometers). The stakes are high, and the excitement even higher, as more than PhP 2 million worth of cash prizes will be given away!
Register now until December 31, 2019 to enjoy the early-bird discount rate and get limited-edition freebies! All participants will get a PRURide PH race kit complete with jersey, drawstring bag, discount vouchers, while all race finishers will get a finisher’s medal.
